I've been riding for over 40 years - with his finger in my early days, the boots of the Scouts, a Lambretta came next and then my first followed pileup by the new old bangers to the beaches of the Costa Brava.

My thumb, boots, bikes and bangers took me all over Europe and the UK before finding that a charter flight Spain in an old 'Connie' I could get to the beaches and bars much faster and have more time to enjoy the horse travel opportunities and truck and bus from time to time and train.

'Go West and Happy "seems to be a good idea so instead of taking a flight of 8 hours 8 days took a transatlantic cruise from Tilbury to Montreal on the Stephan Batory Polish Ocean Lines to ensure that jet lag did not bother in my travel plans. Some years later crossed the pond in a boat again but this time was 5 times larger and I traveled in style in the Queen Elizabeth 2 and dined on the grid for the Queen a bit removed from my previous experience. I recommend travel by sea, but I do not see one of the modern cruise ships going from port to port with constant alignments up and down to buy shirts. However, I made 10 Windjammers and Star Clipper cruise in the Caribbean that were memorable (hopefully Windjammer Barefoot Cruises recover from problems.) But I digress.

I'd read that Canada is one spectacular country from sea to sea, and my entrance into the St. Lawrence River to Montreal and then westwards in an Econoline van age of the Great Lakes, through the meadows of the Rocky Mountains before the end of whale watching off the Pacific coast of Vancouver Island was a wonderful trip to an uncle in London. Today the scenery is still spectacular and the best way forward is still on the road, renting or buy a car, trailer or motorcycle, take the train or bus tour, but remember the maps, a fly rod, good shoes and take your time.

My favorite part of Canada and the U.S. Adventure travel has to be the northern BC / Alaska, to travel the Chilkoot Trail in the footsteps of the goldseekers 1898. Territories Northwest canoe Nahanni River and the Yukon to drive from Dawson City to Chicken, Alaska. If you like the outdoors and can withstand a few errors, cast a fly and scale of few hills or driving on dirt roads endlessly sharing space with moose, caribou, moose, bears and eagles, these are the places to put on your list. The pleasures and experiences in the drive to Inuvik on the Dempster Highway to Prudhoe Bay or in the Dalton Highway or road Canola can only be felt by them. I had mentioned the Alaska Highway, but now it's an easy journey unlike the previous ones.

Today the cost of driving these distances may mean sharing the journey with the other is necessary, but simply Vanning and RVing or camping is an excellent way to see beyond the horizon. We tend to forget that the real cost of travel is often less today than during the 40 years of my travels. In my 40 years of travel I've had to use travel agents to make even the simplest of reservations and buy tickets, even thought to ask if they had "Been there, done that?" It was just a case of absence of other options for purchasing travel. We now have unlimited options and can find the best travel agents better prices, better selections and information anywhere in the world for our trips - without ever leaving home.

The Internet now offers travelers ideas and options of where to go, when to go, why go, what to Do, and How-To book to save money and reduce costs. We can look for and find experts for every travel option. If we are comfortable with the Internet and not have to go to a travel agency to make reservations and buy tickets, except in the hotel with some of the major travel companies still producing glossy brochures and offer all inclusive packages or visits that only sold through the agency system. The Internet also allows those of us who are smart enough to know when seeking a superior travel agency with expertise and know-how (skills KEE) of destinations and activities about where to look. There is no need to use our local agents only when it is a world elsewhere. When it is not necessary "Knowledge and do it ourselves, just surf the web so that we can book directly with travel and tourism operators wherever they have decided to go.

Some travel agencies operate their own tours, some are wholesale and retail, some limit consumer choice of only selling their "Preferred" suppliers and some have professional consultants with years of experience invested in acquiring knowledge, experience and expertise and are worth their weight in gold for the traveler. Be careful, as some specialists are also called destination and some of these names are merely require the agent to undergo a rudimentary test offered by the offices tourism, marketing groups of destinations or tour operators and in my opinion, can damage the reputation of the travel industry. A specialist is not necessarily an expert.

The trip is probably the most used commercial aspect of the Internet and whether sales agents want to take this opportunity to offer exciting "knowledge" and his "kee" skills to a global audience, not only in their local community should embrace the changes that are happening. Travelers now have the ability to seek answers to the 5 W of travel and the important "How to 'save money and offset costs by having the information just a click away.

And then it occurred to me that even Internet travel prices often include an element of commission, even when sold directly the consumer. If you book directly with operators should not have to pay full retail prices as we are doing for ourselves what is a retail agency normally do for us. Obviously, this two price levels is often not available, but travelers who do not need or advice should not be penalized by fixing retail prices. A new way had to find and I think I found!
