Motorhome Rentals For The First Time
It was the summer of 2009 and I lived in the French Alps, Serre Chevalier in the Hautes Alpes, to be exact. My daughter largest was 5 years old and my new little girl, about 2 months. I had lived in the French Alps for about seven years and my parents and my in-laws were still very much alive and fairly well, but great travelers, not now that they had reached their mid-70s. As we all live in the UK, the only real option was to visit England to to meet their new granddaughter.
Of course their other considerations as an old friend of mine was a 50th birthday party, and there were my two brothers-in-laws my wife and I had not seen for over 2 years.
I thought a lot about how to do all this, that was my plan to drive my car to England, but then what? This was August, which is peak holiday time in the UK - places to stay can be booked up or just too expensive. So I thought about camping, but only for a minute, before my wife said is very convenient with a newborn born. I had to think of something else ...
I decided to hire a motorhome from a UK based company. The company had about 500 houses trailers distributed by the United Kingdom and surprisingly still had some of them in August even though I was doing my research in late July. I decided hire a mobile home in Reading, Berkshire, which was a fairly central location for our trips. I called a toll-free in the United Kingdom, 0800 612 8719 to do research and talked to the nice Sheena who helped me with my reservation. I was surprised how easy it all was a credit card confirmed the reservation and then there was a minimal amount of paperwork just to provide the legality "for motor insurance.
On arrival in the United Kingdom I decided to drop out of my family to my brother-in-law in London, then went to the point of rental truck campers in Reading where I met Anna showed me the house stock, a 200 2004 Eldiss Autoquest. She showed me all the features that I used as hot and cold water, gas central heating (it can be cold in the United Kingdom, even in summer). My only concern at this point was how it would fit my child safety seats in the motorhome for travel in the case of along. had lap belts in the back but they were not looking ahead, which meant he could not draw my children in the right direction. I decided to 'how to do it later "because it was dark now. I left my car at the collection point as agreed.
The return trip to London was fine, I have had some very large trucks in my time, so the size was not a problem and in fact the 2.0-liter diesel engine to look over the M4 at 70 mph without any problem. The radio / CD player that have accompanied me on the way back to London. When I got home I realized it was a way that could thread the rear seat belts differently to at least give my baby the correct orientation.
The next day we packed up the motorhome all our things and went to Paignton, Devon, where my "little" brother-in-law lives. This was a stop easy as simply parked on its way entry and ran everything off the auxiliary battery and gas. We stayed in Devon a few days, including 3 nights at the Beverly Park - a campground and a kids club, mini golf, well as indoor and outdoor. We had a day at Paignton Zoo and a day on the beach at Torquay, so everything was good.
The following stop was to my parents in Stoke-on-Trent, not the most surprising of places, but 5 years old Maddy wanted to see their grandparents. The motor home equipped almost at the entrance of his hut and we had to level using the ramps provided. I had thought of connecting to the mains, but appeared not to be a problem only using 12 volts and gas. Our Travel was sadly coming to an end now, but he managed to squeeze in my "political family" in Leighton Buzzard, an annual gathering of days My wife's "art school" in Muswell Hill, London and even the 50th birthday in Watford and a trip to see old friends of ours from France Toppesfield now live in Essex.
Overall I was pleased with the trailer Eldiss Autoquest and overall experience of rental campers, but next time, probably look for one with a permanent double bed in the back and some beds closer to the front that double as seats for passengers. Probably I will buy a mobile home, one day, but I really think are going to hire one first to get an idea of what is offered by different manufacturers and which is perfect for my family and how to use it.

Next year I am planning a trip to Glastonbury Festival via a hired motorhome. Motorhome and Glastonbury campervan hire specialists, Motorholme, have been providing a hire service for many years. Many companies do not wish their campervans to go to Glastonbury, but this is fine with Motorholme. Each year there is a system in which you can reserve your campervan with a small deposit and if you don't get a ticket, then automatically get your deposit back. Artist promoters may also consider using a Glastonbury motorhome hire service to provide corporate accommodation during the festival. For more details call 0800 612 8719 to find out more or visit http://www.glastonburycampervanhire.com.
