With the high incidence of car crashes out there on the country's open roads, it's important when looking for RV motorhomes to consider their safety features, along with other more fun things to think about like whether or not there is a DVD player. This can help save a world of heartbreak down the road, whether you are in a minor fender bender or a more serious collision. While you may be the safest driver in the world, this does not necessarily mean that everyone else out there can be trusted, of course. There are a number of innovations in the latest models of RV's that help keep everyone safer and should be looked for.

The most obvious safety features for RV motorhomes are of course seatbelts for every passenger, as well as airbags in the front section in particular. If this is not available, you should rule out the vehicle immediately. In the larger compartments in the back of the trailer, make sure that cupboards and other storage sections are well protected with doors that do not fly open and serious latches or bungee cords to tie everything down. If the vehicle stops suddenly, objects flying out of storage could cause serious injury.

Be sure there is adequate room for water storage and a first aid kit included, or bring one along yourself no matter how long of a drive you plan on going on. Many RV motorhomes will now have a first aid station built in that minimizes the amount of supplies you need to stock up on before heading out on the road, making life easier for everyone. Make sure that you and your passengers are all up to date on first aid information, and know the basics of CPR and how to use bandages effectively, just in case only one person is conscious in an accident out there.

Many of the new materials that are used for cushions and seating are also designed with safety in mind, and are designed to absorb shock. These act as mini-airbags of sorts. A padded interior can help if anyone ends up flying about the cabin in the event of an immediate stop that wasn't planned for, so be sure to check into this additional feature when looking at RV motorhomes. It helps to have a list of questions for your dealer when you start the browsing process, and ask for these features to be pointed out to you.

Is it required for a baby to be in a car seat in a RV/motor home?

In general can't someone relax in sofa or in bed while the RV/Motorhome is in motion? There are lots of movies where you see people sleeping in a RV while it's on the road. Are those just fictional and illegal?

RV's are not except from the laws of physics, even if they are except from the legal writs of a particular state (though I doubt any state does this).

A child NEEDS to be in a properly used carseat, and the likelyhood of getting a childseat properly installed in an RV are slim to none.
