Fifth Wheel Origin

Fifth generation four-door Maserati
Normally not expected maserati "> Maserati to duke it out in a height of Mercedes, Audi, BMW and Jaguar, but with the Quattroporte, that's exactly what the Italian company was doing. And quite successfully, it must be said. A poor used 'QP' can mean big bills though. Caveat emptor. Maserati has a long history of building four door fast cars. Some of them have even been quite good. Have been lost in some way, but few expected the massive success of the fifth generation Quattroporte, launched in 2004. Voted the best cars on the planet by GQ magazine Objects Luxe review, the Quattroporte quickly became a viable alternative German Eurocrat trade marks. Here's how to snag a used example.
HISTORY
A brief history of title = "sell my maserati"> Maserati Quattroporte? The original 1963 Frua designed car is a work of art. His successor was the 1974 oil crisis and absolutely terrible. The third generation car in 1979 was better but still a bit of an old barge blousy. The style Gandini Quattroporte IV 1994 showed a amount of promise, but was disappointed by the illegal construction quality. The best of the bunch, no doubt, the fifth-generation car, launched in 2004 with criticism very favorable.
Launched initially with manual sequential gearbox Cambiocorsa, the Quattroporte is offered later in the Executive and Sport GT levels GT trim. In 2007 an automatic version was announced to be sold together with the DuoSelect sequential manual model. At the same time take the opportunity Maserati to add gray granite and ocean blue paint finishes and a new type of wood, Tanganyika, while the interior can be ordered in a scheme of two shades of color.
What you get
It makes sense for a car that tries to cover as many bases of the Quattroporte to allow a little expertise. The basic frame is a extraordinary talent, and as an entry-level drive, the range is divided into Sport and Executive GT. This has enabled the company to adjust the product to more focused manner. The Executive GT is targeted at high net worth individuals and business users looking for a car that offers cross continental capabilities with the Refined fittings and accessories effortlessly. A chrome mesh grille and chrome grilles compete for attention alongside an external identification plate and 19 inch rims polished alloy ball. A wood and upholstered in leather-trimmed steering wheel and an Alcantara headliner are well considered details, while a package comfort for rear seat passengers offers combined heating, ventilation and massage for rear passengers and the two-seat electric adjustment and backrests, retractable rear of the wood coupled with the rest of the interior and curtains for privacy and comfort. That said, virtually every aspect of the interior the car is somewhat customizable if you have the money.
Of course there are some customers who need four doors but secretly long for handling and attractiveness of a sport coupe. These are in charge of the Quattroporte Sport GT. In addition to an issue of carbon fiber for the interior, alloy wheels 20 inch a sporty looking steering wheel and handbrake design and aluminum pedal covers, the Sport GT also adds software gearbox can change gears completely for 35 cent faster when at maximum attack, shaving vital tenths off the sprint to 100 mph and shift paddles behind the wheel. The brakes feature metal fabric tube, drilled discs and calipers titanium color. The revised exhaust system produces an even fruitier note when you let the increase speed and improved Skyhook software allows the electronic shock absorbers to act more aggressively.
WHAT YOU PAY
Prices open at £ 47,000 for the first 2004 models with the Cambiocorsa gear shift. You will need £ 60,000 to get their hands on a car with the subsequent transfer of DuoSelect (on a sheet of 06). GT Sport start at £ 65,000 on a board of 06 Executive GT models with a couple of thousand pounds. Insurance for all models is classified in Group 20.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR
The Quattroporte has proven pretty resilient but if you expect Lexus-like peace of mind can be a surprise. Minor electrical items still seem to have a life and still have to run a Maserati that has kept us amused with various fake warning lights seemingly random lighting. Later cars such as the Sport GT and Executive GT models seem to have many of the original problems solved. Make sure the wheels, tires and bodywork are in perfect condition and the interior is not looking too overwhelmed. Leather upholstery is tough, but try to avoid paler colors that become dirty very quickly. Check if there is a full service history, and if buying privately pay for an HPI control - is a wise investment.
SPARE PARTS
(Approx prices based on 2004 Quattroporte) In comparison to many exotic species, a new clutch is quite reasonable, retailing at around £ 480, but front brake pads are expensive at £ 255 a pair and £ 280 for a set of breeding. A new exhaust system is about of £ 3,600 excluding catalysts and an alternator costs approximately £ 490. However, these prices are not too different upspec Mercedes S-Class models
ON THE ROAD
The nature of the Maserati Quattroporte is such that it suits an automatic gearbox rather better than the most unequal, Herky DuoSelect manual. If you want a car to pick up by the scruff of the neck and drive sideways as Tiff Needell, there are probably better options around. If on the other hand, are looking for the equivalent car an exquisitely tailored suit Italian, Quattroporte triumphs. Smooth, beautifully finished and vulgar without effort, the four-door Maserati is a car that does not need to strive too. An F1-style sequential manual transmission it only smells when the automatic transmission barely breaks sweat. Will still reach 60 mph in 5.4 from rest seconds (0.4 seconds DuoSelect model) and run at a maximum speed of 167 mph. Out on a race track, you'll feel a little less alert, but is a Quattroporte, a car that likes to get in a hurry when the country bleating cross big roads, the 4.2-liter V8 engine of 400bhp singing a magnificent baritone. Point and not the strong jet of this Maserati.
DuoSelect is a six-speed sequential manual gives the driver the choice between a change of F1-style paddle and an automated mode, where the electronics of the car makes the change for you. Not as easy as "own" inverter automatically pair but it is a very good effort. There is even a detention center on a slope that keeps the brakes long enough to allow the driver to move the foot brake the accelerator without the car rolling backwards. There are also two additional modes that are selectable on the fly. "Low Grip 'allows the car to move out of second gear, avoiding wheelspin while 'Sport' mode speeds up gear shifts, puts them higher up the rev range and adjust the suspension settings, traction and stability control systems to make it look more aggressive.
If you are just as aggressive right hand pedal, this will catapult Quattroporte 60 mph in 4.9 seconds and a top speed of 171 mph. Be a little less aggressive and to be able to average 14.9mpg 90 liter tank that will give an extensive tour of approximately 280 miles. Perhaps the fuel economy would be a little better if the Maserati could tip the balance a little less than 1860kg - more than the weight of a Mercedes S500 - but rear seat passengers will not resist the space gets a little.
GLOBAL
The Maserati Quattroporte is a jewel, if you can find a good care and responsibility of a car if you sell a puppy. Maserati franchise dealers represent their best chance to improve their chances, but offers will be difficult to achieve. The best cars are late models Sport GT with the automatic gearbox, but they still are very thin on the ground. One of the first models Cambiocorsa gearbox is a good relationship with prices falling below £ 45,000 for higher mileage examples. Since money is upspec BMW 5 Series is hard to resist.
