Fleetwood is trapped in large-scale Alleged Misrepresentation of Towing Capacity
For those unfamiliar with "the RV lifestyle", capacity the trailer may not seem that important. However, to regular RV'ers, towing capacity is a big part of "lifestyle" RV. After all, companies like FLEETWOOD persuade consumers to part with large six-figure sums not just based on the purchase of a vehicle, but also in sale of the whole supposed lifestyle that goes along with it.
For many Americans, "lifestyle" RV is their dream retirement, traveling wherever would be without the time constraints, meeting both new faces and old friends along the way, spending months at a time with grandchildren or favorite nieces and nephews ... It all sounds so quiet.
But it remains a very important ingredient for this lifestyle, "RV": you need a car, you can tow behind the RV. RV can not run the center of a cup of Starbucks or a stop at Pollo Loco-are too great and no where to park. You can not park in a theater or most restaurants with an RV. Apart from Wal Mart and some others, there are some retailers with parking lots big enough for RV. Thus, almost all RV'ers park their RV at RV parks and jump in passenger cars or pick-up for a night on the town, or almost anything other than driving on the road.
This is where towing weight comes into play. Most or all Class A RV's come with a trailer hitch for the owners can tow a pick-ups or passenger cars behind them, as reduce road. ("Class A" refers to the bus "," style of RV, where the engine and transmission compartments and life are all part of one large unit size of a bus. By contrast, Class B RV are usually "fifth wheel" that are towed behind, or sometimes on top of a truck pick-up and a "Class C" RV is more of a bed van conversion, much smaller than a Class A.) Therefore, the class needs to power an RV Drag the types of vehicles that RV owners use when they are not driving their RVs.
2005 Providence 2006 Fleetwood Discovery, Excursion, Expedition and Bounder Class A RV were all sold to consumers with a sticker advertising a towing weight capacity of 10,000 pounds. A 10,000 pounds. capacity allow towing not only of smaller cars but also larger sedans and pick-up small to medium size.
Now, suddenly, Fleetwood has issued a recall, consumers that the 10,000 pounds. Towing capacity was a mistake and offering a new sticker, placed on old label, indicating a tow limit of only 5,000 pounds.
"This is not a memory, is a whitewash," says prominent lawyer consumer protection Robert F. Brennan of La Crescenta, California. law firm Brennan, Wiener & Associates. "A recall is used when the manufacturer can do something to fix the problem. Put a sticker on the RV, indicating that now has half the towing capacity that was represented when it was sold, is more of a fraud of a solution. "
