As the nights start drawing in and the weather cools, many of us start look forward to warm nights cozy fires and summer fades into a distant memory. Before starting to stock up on festive wrapping paper and dust the tart minced meat is a lot of fun to be had in the first place.

With Halloween conveniently located at the end of half term, why not bring the children interested in some of the rich heritage of Britain (not to mention spend some quality time with family) with a short break in your motorhome? Through the recent media sensations, the paranormal is more popular than ever with the younger generation why not take this opportunity to really lead their interest in history and a trailer at their disposal, no corner of the UK is out of reach. Here are just a few places that have a fascinating story enough to excite the children, intrigue and entertain teenagers, even you.

Let's start with perhaps the best known haunted place in Britain, the Tower of London. Most famously known as a real strength to incarcerate high standing in society, the Tower is a great place to start educating younger generations about the history of Great Britain and the monarchy without boring them, even the ghosts are educational. The most famous alleged be that of Anne Boleyn, beheaded by order of King Henry VIII. British history may have connotations of being boring and stuffy, Anne Boleyn was nothing that stopped on charges of adultery, incest and treason, his life is bound to attract the interest of their children, maybe you can spot his ghost wandering around the grounds carrying his severed head under his arm.

If you want to take your motorhome to explore some of the peaceful landscapes of Great Britain and escape the bustle of big cities the stunning Lake Thirlmere in the Lake District has some of the most beautiful landscapes in the UK, originally two smaller lakes lies a sinister secret of water, Armboth House. According to legend, the family of occupation were the organization of the wedding of his daughter to come into place the following day, when informed that her daughter had been pushed and drowned in the lake nearby. Although the murderer was never caught, strange happenings were reported still in the house long after family abandoned him, the lights turn on, the sounds of the wedding party in preparation could be heard, always on the same day every year, the day of his death, Halloween. The house has been submerged under the waters of the lake for over a hundred years, but many who visit the area still report feeling a strange chill and unresolved, especially at Halloween. While the kids enjoy the mystery mysterious, picturesque surroundings are bound to keep you enthralled as well.

If you want a little more education with the paranormal, it might be worth taking your camper to Sussex. The Battle of Hastings took place in 1066 in a small town now known as the Battle and is often included in most school history curriculum. While this may not necessarily capture the interest of their children, the site itself, of course, is rumored to be haunted. Battle Abbey was built to commemorate the battle and help defend England during the war in 100 years, and although part of it now is in ruins, is open to the public and is supposedly haunted by a host of ghosts including an appearance around with a spear in the eye (King Harold?) a knight and the plate on the altar to commemorate the death of King Harold ran with the blood of all those who seem more likely to make an appearance in October, the day the battle. With all the paranormal activity in this small town, it is impossible to get your interest sparked in British history.
