Motor Guide alarms

There are many alarms for the sale of many manufacturers, but may offer different levels of protection. In the search an alarm for your trailer, shop around to see what are the main features are described below.

If you want the best protection, locate devices that are approved Thatcham CAT 1. The benefit of a CAT 1 alarm is combined with an engine immobilizer and ignition perimeter detection and a power supply battery backup. These devices have been tested to ensure they are effective in preventing the theft of a motor home. They are also more likely that you qualify for a discount on your motor home insurance, so check with your insurer.

The trailer alarm you choose should have sensors in the driver and passenger doors and the gate house to ensure the alarm sounds if any of these doors open. Some alarms also come on if the hood the engine up, deter thieves attempting to disconnect the battery in an attempt to deactivate the alarm.

Passive infrared (PIR) sensors inside the camper will detect any movement from anyone who has access to the trailer and activate the alarm, the protection of their belongings. Some alarms have the functionality to disable this feature as a night "and pet" mode so you can still use the alarm at night while sleeping and during the day if you leave inside pet unattended. Some devices may have volumetric ultrasonic sensors can also detect movement inside the vehicle. This type of sensor movement, although often more expensive to manufacture, so you can pay more for a volumetric alarm with ultrasonic sensors you would for a PIR sensor, but both methods are effective in preventing theft of trailers.

Most alarms come with remote controls so that the alarm can be activated and deactivated distance. This can be useful if you accidentally set off the alarm.

Other features of your alarm include motor may come with an alarm mechanism panic so you can activate the alarm should you become a victim of a robbery while in the trailer. The alarm should disturb the would-be thief, and alert any campers neighbors.

If you need any advice on the alarm that best suits you, ask your local dealer. Your insurance company will also be able to tell if the alarm he has will get a discount on your insurance premium motorhome. Perhaps your insurance company will insist on a Thatcham Cat 1 Thatcham approved or cat 2 to 1 to update the system to ensure that it meets your needs.
