In a motorhome, how I can test the solenoid LP out?

I have a motorhome with a closing solenoid LP. I can not get gas to flow on the device, so I assume closing the solenoid closes. How I can prove this? There are two terminals on the solenoid. Are negative and positive just 12 volts? If I apply 12 volts through them if the valve open? Could a weak battery house makes the valve closed? I do not know if the problem is Battery low or open circuit somewhere.

If a weak battery could cause this problem. The detector operates on 12V LP. If you are not getting proper voltage, then I can not function properly. Before testing the solenoid, make sure you are getting good voltage to the detector. Also, as simple as it is, make sure the switch is ON. Some models have an on / off button and / or a test button. The detector is located near indoor plant, usually the bedroom or kitchen area and most are brown.
