Weigh your RV!
Most people who are new to RVing and just bought their first RV may be too excited to get on the road not think on how much cargo loading. Each unit, whether in a recreational vehicle, truck, trailer, or a toy hauler, has its limits individual weight. It's one thing to have everything you need, but having too much load on a trip can be dangerous. This can be the difference between a safe, enjoyable and a disastrous nightmare.
Before starting on the road, make sure you know the manufacturer weight ratings for your vehicle. These include the gross vehicle weight ratings (GVWR), Gross Combined Weight Ratings (GCWR) and Gross axle weight (GAWR). Never exceed the weight limits that are established. They are there for a reason. Exceed put a big risk for you and your family. Note also that may be within vehicle weight ratings, but still higher than the rating axis. To avoid this, the weight of each axle separately and ensure that your vehicle weight is distributed evenly.
To find out where you can weigh your vehicle, you can look through the yellow pages and moving companies or truck stops. There are different types of scales, as a platform scale that can measure the entire vehicle, a scale of one axle shaft weighing a time and a segmented platform scale that controls both the weight and each individual axis. Make sure the place you find appropriate scales.
When you are having your vehicle or a heavy trailer, make sure everything is loaded like to camp the same day, which means including all passengers, cargo, pets, food, water, clothing, fuel and propane tanks. If the whole world can come, bring something that is about the same weight. You do not want to leave anything out and almost lost the trip to the scales. Once there, the weighing process is not very difficult, just time. Take your time and make sure you weigh everything correctly.
