Battery connected wrong, so I hurt?

I have a 1973 motorhome with a 440. My friend connected my battery while I was under a line on the brakes. I noticed smoke generator and shouted for him to disengage. You now have a dead short. I think that is the fatest wire going to the alternator because smoking is also under the dash. I located the wire and goes back to the alternator. So, what do you think fried? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

DODGE (Drive or Drag goes everywhere), so I need an alternator and voltage regulator with safety, and more than likely a resistance of ballast for the distributor and posibly points too.And remove the starter and test it;; may be right. At this point changed alt and regulator and main hot box fuse switch and revise or replace if burned, you can start it, but just to be sure to pull all your fuses and then start it up. Then one by one and put them back circuit test if you have a multiple battery system for the service of 12 volts AC without hook up to 110 (dial regulator distribution and switch on that system and batteries as well and if you have a converter that charges the batteries to check too. voice of experience with homes motor accident I did the same years ago (give your friend a paper weight with a pin of the battery in it) is an accidental mistake anyone can make. but it's fun to put a bit of fun that therefore the weight of paper!
