New Zealand by Road & Rail: A Journey through natural splendor

Most people experience New Zealand through a combination a return flight and car hire, driving your destination to see the area. This is a more effective approach that flexibility is the key and the time is not an obstacle. But for a vast region, including New Zealand in a limited period, it is no easier or more enjoyable than the combination of road and rail method.

One of the down sides of rail transport in New Zealand is not reached all tourist destinations, such as the Bay of Islands and Queenstown. But for those who come to Auckland and want to relax while enjoying New Zealand's North Island before jumping into a caravan and the exploration of the South Island rail is the perfect way to travel. rail routes from New Zealand provide some of the world's most spectacular landscapes. The trip may include sightings of whales, dolphins and seals, and no doubt the cliffs, mountains, oceans, rivers, farmland ... stunning natural beauty everywhere. Do not forget your camera!

Train stops at "connecting the Overland Route" from Auckland to Christchurch include Hamilton, National Park, Ohakune, Palmerston North, Wellington and North Island. The two islands are connected between Wellington and Picton by ferry, which is a great way to change the landscape, the trip takes about three hours. (The trip between the station Railway and the ferry is included via a free shuttle.) Ro soft function or full meals, a children's play area, and plenty of deck space to enjoy the scenery and meet other travelers, among others. The intersection includes an hour journey through the magnificent Marlborough Sounds. After crossing the Interislander ferry the train passes through Blenheim and Kaikoura before arriving in Christchurch, the largest city in the South Island.

"Come, get off "train tickets can be purchased through the Tranz Scenic rail network in public ownership, so it is not necessary to pre-determine their schedule despite that is an option, you can "take it as it comes" and decide on the sleeve of how long you like to spend at each destination. The trains are modern and comfortable centrally heated and air conditioned and include a selection of meals, snacks and drinks for sale. High season trains operate seven days a week from December to April (Except Christmas Day) and decreased activity of running three days a week.

It is possible to take a train from Christchurch over the Canterbury Plains west to the alpine township of Arthurs Pass before descending through lush beech rain forest to the West Coast town of Greymouth, but that is so far the railway. So much more sense to rent a motorhome for this part of the ride as you can push down the West Coast and explore the magnificent Southern Alps and glaciers in their spare time. The beautiful Haast pass then takes you back to the Southern Alps to Queenstown, the adventure capital of New Zealand. From here you can go exploring Fiordland (famous for the iconic Milford Sound) Southland, Stewart Island and all the way up the east coast through Dunedin Otago through back to Christchurch.

No matter how you choose to enjoy your new Zealand adventure is sure to be a memorable experience that will have you coming back for more!
