As the rainy season ends it's time to hit the top-end

The Northern Territory extends from the center to the northern tip of Australia and covers more 1,350,000 square kilometers. It is the least populated of all states and territories and about forty percent of the land is Aboriginal land trust. Two distinct zones divided Northern Territory: Top End, the neighborhood's tropical north, while southern Red Centre is semi-arid to arid. The Far North is tropical savanna and forest intermittent rain. Several perennial rivers flow through spectacular canyons and gorges, mangroves and wetlands, and then flow into the saltwater estuaries along the north coast. The Far North, though it is summer in the southern hemisphere, has a station rainy season from November to April, with monsoon rains and tropical storms. Aboriginal peoples have continuously occupied the area for more than 20,000 years. This is illustrated the rich history of hundreds of rock art sites and thousands of other important archaeological remains. Kakadu, about 280 km east of Darwin, is accessible by paved roads, but many items on its four-wheel drive to facilitate access to the most remote and rugged. The largest national parks, Kakadu should be savored, not rushed. Pass several days in the area gives an idea of the Top End, as well as on the multicolored sunsets red sandstone cliffs, or the roar of water cascading over spectacular gorges.

Covering almost half of the Top End, Arnhem Land is a large Aboriginal trust mainly occupied by the Yolngu people, near the border of East Kakadus. Arnhem Land known for its inland fresh and inshore saltwater fishing. Art galleries display throughout the lands the eternal, the sacred Indian art of the Yolngu and sell works art by local artists. Over the years the sacred ceremonies and festivals continue the traditions of native peoples, several are open to non Yolngus. Access to area is by permit only, although a few places can be visited without a permit. Self-drive is allowed with permits, guided tours are available.

Litchfield National Park, accessible by paved road between Darwin and Katherine, features spectacular waterfalls, rock formations and unique magnetic termite mounds. Katherine town, about 330 km south of Darwin, is essential for Cutta Cutta Caves Nature Area and Nitmiluk National Park, accessible by paved road. At Nitmiluk, the river flows through Katherine dramatic, deeply cut the throats of sandstone. Both air and boat are available to see this amazing natural area. Saltwater crocodiles migrate upstream during the wet season, freshwater crocodiles and endemic species and endangered species can be seen in Nitmiluk.

The huge space, natural beauty and cultural richness varied along with the cooler weather of the dry season, offer an exciting opportunity to take a motorhome rental in Australia and explore and experience the upper end of the wonderful Land Down Under.
