Fifth Wheel Campers - Slider Hitch Information

A sliding hitch fifth wheel makes all those dreams of adventures on the road and come to life when you purchase a fifth wheel trailer. It's worth the time to take your time to install it correctly.

Remember, if you do not trust their engineering capability is usually best to call the professionals. Better safe than sorry. A few dollars could save your life.

Before you begin:

• Make sure you have the correct hitch for your vehicle and trailer in tow. • Review the instruction sheet provided with the hitch. • Check the area Vehicle hitch attachment. Do not attach a hitch to a vehicle which shows excessive corrosion or damage to the hitch attachment areas. • Take appropriate safety precautions. By raising the vehicle on a lift or ramp, make sure the vehicle is properly secured and locked so that no fall or roll holders. • Make sure you have the proper tools and wear safety glasses when drilling holes. Installation Tips 1. Before installation, it is good practice to loosely assemble the hitch, install the drawbar, pin and clip and hold the hitch in place. This will allow identification of any obstruction to the installation, verification of the vertical position in the vehicle and also give an idea of how the coupling be installed.

2. A scissors jack or floor can be very useful in holding the hitch in place. In many cases, you can use tweezers to grasp the attachment to the structure during the installation process.

3. May be necessary to temporarily loosen the exhaust system and / or slightly reposition it to clear hitch during installation. This is particularly true where an exhaust system has been replaced before installing the hitch, as all couplings are designed vehicles from original equipment do not forget to reattach any exhaust clamps, hangers etc. after hitch installation.

4. In some cases it may be necessary to adjust the bumper of a vehicle, or brackets that are mounted in the bumper to properly install the hitch. Most bumper mounted the bumper brackets using bolts in slots. Find the appropriate screws and adjust the cap accordingly.

5. Whenever possible, couplers are designed to use existing holes. Where appropriate holes are not available, holes must be drilled in the frame. Once the pin is accurate its position and held in place on the vehicle, you can drill holes in the appropriate places using the holes in the hitch as a guide.

6. Where the holes should be drilled without using the hitch as a guide, hole locations can be permanently identified by spraying black paint over holes. Remove the hitch, center punch the hole positions and drill a pilot hole. This may be followed in the right size to drill the hole right.

7. Drill holes are the same size as the bolt or the greater majority of the 1 / 32. "Holes or slots are provided on the coupling for adjustment.

8. When drilling, be extremely careful to avoid drilling into vehicle components which are located behind where the hole is drilled. Loosen pressure on the drill just before the break.

9. When installing the hitch, be sure to use the reinforcing plates supplied with the hitch in your case. These plates reinforce the framework and spread the load on the edges of the frame.

10. The hitch must have solid metal to metal contact with the fixing points of the vehicle. primer Excessive or welding on the vehicle must be removed.

11. All hardware, with the exception of nuts tab (thin nuts welded to a wire used in some applications of coupling) and U-bolts grade 5 (Imperial sizes) or 8.8 (metric).

You can tow a 1999 Ford Contour with a motorhome?

I found a site through Yahoo search a while back was a list great car that can not be towed behind a motor home, but I can not seem to find now that need the information. I bought a 440 Dodge motor home that has a hitch, and we are thinking of moving to the beach (a 6-8 hour drive for us) and staying in the RV for a while. I want to buy the hitch certain, but not I'm sure if your vehicle can be made as a trailer behind. Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

If a change is normal, then yes, can tow. If automatic, then get after a car dolly. Trailer for more than 50 miles will destroy the transmission unless you leave the car engine running.
